Further Development of the SMART-Signal System with the City of Eden Prairie

Principal Investigator

Henry Liu, Associate Professor, Civil, Environmental and Geo-Engineering

Project Summary

MnDOT, Hennepin County, and the City of Eden Prairie are in the process of re-timing about 30 coordinated traffic signals in the primary commercial area surrounding the Eden Prairie Center. The intent of this proposed project would be to use the SMART-Signal technology as a 24/7 monitoring system of the selected signals and to determine how best this data could be put to practical use. The combination of the selected intersections should help the agencies determine if there are "hidden" problems in the traffic signal system and the extent, pattern, and duration for the operational issues that these intersections or the system as a whole may be experiencing.
